Diamond Creek

Overview

Diamond Creek is thought to take its name from the crystalline minerals in the creek bed and was originally named Nillumbik. It is a residential and rural real estate area. Development of the area dates originally from the 1850s, but primarily from the post war era. The Diamond Creek area was used for orcharding from the late 1800s to 1912 but did not grow between the 1920s and 1950s due to the demise of gold mining and orcharding. Significant growth occurred in the 1970s. Major features include three primary schools, Diamond Valley College, Diamond Creek Shopping Centre, Diamond Creek Reserve and Nillumbik Park. The size of Diamond Creek is approximately 17 square kilometres and has 13 parks covering nearly 3% of the total land area.
