Mernda

Mernda: A stone’s throw away from everything yet far from the busy streets

Located in the City of Whittlesea, just a half-hour away from Melbourne’s Central Business District (CBD), is the beautiful town of Mernda.

The area, formerly known as Morang, Yan Yean and Yan Yean South, was eventually changed to Mernda, the Wurundjeri word for ‘Earth’.

Once a small town with only a school, bakery, church, mechanic’s institute, and a railway, it has now transformed into a growing urbanized district.

Living in Mernda

Mernda was recently recognised as one of the fastest growing suburbs in the whole of Victoria. Now highly modernized, real estate in Mernda offers all types of land for sale, houses for sale, and properties for rent.

New subdivisions are being built and expanded all over the area.  New communities such as Hawkstowe, Woodland Waters, Mernda Ridge, Everton Gardens, Bridge Inn Rise, Mernda Villages, Renaissance Rise, and Riverdale, are perfect places to buy a house or land in Mernda.

Mernda has two primary schools: Mernda Primary School and St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.  It also houses the Acacia College – Mernda Campus, the Gilson College, and the Ivanhoe Grammar School along Bridge Inn Road.

Mernda is not only complete and self-sufficient, it is also in a strategic location.  For instance, it’s only a ten-minute drive from the Westfield Plenty Valley Shopping Centre, along with Pacific Epping and various other amenities.

Kalkallo Road also features the Mernda Villages Shopping Centre, which includes the Woolworths supermarket and ten other specialty stores. The shopping centre has a large area dedicated to car and bicycle parking facilities.  It also has a café, fast food outlets with dining areas, and even a pharmacy.

Finally, within the area is the lovely Schotters Park, where Mernda residents can walk, bike, and enjoy the environment.  Nearby Plenty Gorge Park also offers mile-long stretches of hilly scenery, that allow for camping, trekking, and bird watching.
